Do you know of any digital archives for Arabic newspapers from the late Ottoman period?
I am starting with 1908-1909, but my thesis may cover other years leading up to WWI depending on the resources I can find. Overall, do you think Bibliotheque Alexandria’s Digital Assets Repository is the most expansive digital archive for Arabic publications?
Notre réponse du 03/18/2015 :
Here’s some websites and online resources where you can find Arabic newspapers’ archives :
- Arabic periodicals from Al-Aqsa mosk, digitized by the British Library
- The Digital orientalist is proposing a website list on full text resources in Arabic social sciences
- Access to Mideast and Islamic resources (AMIR) : Alphabetical list of open access Journals in Middle Eastern studies (But rather contemporary titles….)
- Jaraid project : A Chronology of Nineteenth-Century Periodicals in Arabic (1800-1900)
- Journal Le miroir de l’art musulman (1898) : only 2 numbers digitized
- French journals and periodicals from Egypt (1898-1998) digitized by Centre d’études alexandrines (CeAlex)
- The IMA’s Digital library : no newspapers but Arabic periodicals digitized and sustained by the Biblioteca Alexandrina
Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Digital Assets Repository is one the most expansive digital archive for Arabic publications but they don’t have so much journals or periodicals : see here the contributors’ list to have an idea about the kind of resources you can find.
